WANGANUI INTENTIONS
The subject of suitable celebrations to mark the collapse of Germany was discussed at the last meeting of the City Council in Wanganui, which directed the Town Clerk (Mr. C. R. White) to ascertain the Government's pleasure in the matter, whether there should be uniform celebration in various centres throughout the Dominion, on a given day or at a given hour, or whether each municipality, or local body, should arrange its own programme to suit local conditions. It was stressed by the council that whatever was done should be done as soon as possible after official release of the news that Germany had capitulated, while people were in the mood for celebration.
