VICTORY LOAN BOND WAGGON CONCERT PARTY. I The Bond Waggon Concert Party, v Inch is touring the North Island w'th a view to stimulating interest 1 in the Victory Lean, will visit Marton I on Friday, September 22, at. 3 p.m., and will render a first-class pro- I gramme in Broadway and sell bonds. I To-day the ladies of the W.D.F.U. , will bo in charge of the street sale i for the sale of bonds. Marton’s total investments in the I’ Victory loan is £35,772 and its quota is £127 000 and to reach this goaj it Iv ill bo necessary to invest £5600 daily to October 4. ROTARY CHURCH PARADE. ' Although the weather was not at ( .all favourable to church worshippers . there was a fair number of members of the Marton Rotary Club who braved the elements and attended the , evening service at the Methodist Church on Sunday evening, accompanied by their wives. The Rev. F. H. Parker delivered an inspiring sermon, taking as hi.s subject. “Indecision." from the First Book of Kings, 18 verse, 21: "If the Lord be God, follow Him, but if Baal, follow him." The preacher dealt with the world’s current, problems, stating that the world’s leaders could only deal with such matters according to the standards of the man in the street. The speaker pleaded for vital Christian living—for individuals to decide to walk the way of God for Jesus Christ. During the service Miss Veronica Thomas beautifully rendered the sacred solo, “Just for To-day." President T. C. Ward read the lesson from Matthew 6, 19-34. The church was beautifully decorated with spring flowers, a spring flower service having been, held on Sunday morning. , WELL-DESERVED PROMOTION. Mr. R. L. Gill, who has been .1 - member of the engineering stall of the Rangitikei County Council for the past eighteen years has received an appointment as foreman of the Mauriceville County Council, and I leaves Marlon during this week. During his residence in Marton h? has been a keen supporter of sporting d pastimes and as secretary of the Marton Boxing and Wrestling Associations when they were operating. He was also secretary of the Oddfellows’ Lodge for a number of years and past District Grandmaster. Mr. G’.li also took a keen interest in the Home Guard movement, in the capacity of a drill instructor. LABOUR PARTY DANCE. There was a splendid attendance al the dance in the Empire Hall on Saturday evening, organised by the L _ Marton branch of the N.Z. Labour p Party. Setford’s orchestra supplied the music and the gay Gordons were v. on by Miss M. Down and Mr. C. ' Say we J and Mr. J. N. Gray and partner. The supper was under the supervision of the ladies’ committee and Mr. A. Hunt and Private J. ). Hutchins. Lance-Corporal Gaisford returned thanks, saying how much they appreciated the evening tendered them. During the supper interval Mr. ’ Amadio took the opportunity of extending thanks to Mr. Hartley for his - services rendered to the local dances - and the regret that. it. was the last occasion he would be able to provide S the music cis he leaves the district j shortly. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mr. Hartley and an extra was played by Mrs. Amadio. Supper was provided by the ladies’ A committee and Mr. M. C. Owing to the extraordinary downpour of rain during Sunday night, and Monday morning the Rangitikei River ). rose six feet at Ohingaiti at niidday on Monday and is still rising - rapidly DRESSMAKING.
