GREAT EXPLOSIONS IN FRANCE

Recd. 6 p.m. London, Aug. 23. Mighty explosions behind Calais and Boulogne shook towns in the Dover Straits area this afternoon, and the whole coast shuddered for long periods. It seemed that either the R.A.F. was dropping great concentrations of the heawiet bombs on flyingbomb sites, o,- the Germans were demolishing their own fortifications. Bombers and fighters were heard crossing the Channel at regular Intervals.
