MAQUIS SUCCESSES

Recd. 6 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 24. The entire police force of Cote d’Or has joined the Maquis, it was announced last night in a routine communique from General Koenig’s headquarters. In the course of fighting for the liberation of the Haute Savoie, the F.F.I. took 53,000 prisoners, including 1800 in Annecy; 475 Germans were killed. The German garrison of Bedarieux, in the Herault Department near the south coast, evacuated after an F.F.I. attack. They numbered 1500. The Germans lost 300 men when Chateauroux (Department of Indre) was taken.

The Ardeche Department has been almost completely liberated. At Limoges 28 squadrons of Gardes have joined the F.F.1.—8.0.W.
