Recd. 9.30 p.m. London, Aug. 22. Rommel died on July 18 from a fractured skull in a hospital at Bernay. . That is the considered opinion of M. Lescenc, Mayor of Livarot, who is a local chemist. He gave Rommel an injection after an Allied plane sent the marshal's car hurtling into a ditch near Livarot, reports the British United Press correspondent in France. Lescene recognised Rommel from photographs, and soldiers kept calling him ‘our marshal.’ Rommel was removed to the hospital in Bernaj. Another German officer was later treated at the hospital at Livarot and told a nurse that Rommel had died in Bernay and the body _ was flown secretly to Berlin for burial.
