GIRLS’ LIFE BRIGADE
MR, FRASER AT LONDON RALLY. At a rally of the Girls’ Life Brigade in the Albert Hall, London, the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, received an international friendship trophy and a bravery award for presentation to two New Zealand girls, according to a cablegram received by Miss F. E. Green, secretary of the brigade in New Zealand. The trophy, which was for an essay on the subject, “What country would you like most to visit after tne war, and why?” was won by Miss Lillian Groome, Auckland, and a London girl aged 21, who were equal witn 95 marks. Miss Groome was aged 16 when she entered this international contest. She chose England as her country. Miss Naomi Dean, also ol Auckland, was third with an essay on China. A distinguished service medal was received by Mr. Fraser on behalf of Miss Naida Low, of Kingsland, Auckland. Miss Low. who is 18 years of age, showed outstanding bravery in rescuing a girl from drowning on the Mar.auzau Harbour. She spent an hour and a half in the water while saving the girl, who could not swim and was caught by the tide. The award winners are members of different brigade companies in Auckland.
