U.S. BOMBING ATTACKS

KURILE, CAROLINE AND MARSHALL ISLANDS. Recd. 10 p.m. Washington, May 28. Bombing attacks on Japanese objectives in th.. Kurile, Caroline and Marshall Islands were reported in a Pacific Fleet communique. Navy Venturas bombed Shumushu and Army Liberators attacked Matsuwa Island. Both attacks were made before dawn on Thursday without opposition. Mitchells on Wednesday and Thursday bombed Ponape, hitting the airfield, docks, warehouses and gun positions. Other aircraft on Wednesday and Thursday attacked objectives <n the Marshall Islands. Runways, anti-aircraft batteries, barracks and buildings were hit mid numerous fires were started. A lighter was forced to land near Wolje Atoll, but the pilot was saved.
