OLD-AGE PENSIONERS

ADDRESS BY ORGANISER Organiser of pensioners’ associations, Mr. A. Avery, Wellington, addressed the annual meeting of the Wanganui Old Age, Widow and Invalidity Pensioners’ Association this week, and gave an outline of the problems of pensioners in their declining years. While recognising that pensions were better now than in former years, a set of demands and recommendations had been drawn up and sent to the Government, said Mr. Avery. These requested a higher rate of pension together with cost of living bonuses on the same scale as those granted to superannuitants. Convener of the meeting, Mr. W. D. Ayson, presided over a large attendance of members, and officers elected ed were: President, Mr. W. D. Ayson, vice-presidents, Mrs. M. Madeley and Mr. H. Otto; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. M. Dorin; executive committee, Mesdames L. Lawrence, M. Drake, A. Wilson, A. Luff, I. E. Phillips, M. Aiderton, C. E. Ayson, M. L. White, and M. Madeley, and Mr. C. Jones.
