MAORI ANGLICANS

CONFERENCE IN WANGANUI The annual conference of Maori clergy and laity of the Anglican Church, of the Diocese of Wellington innd Maori pastorates, is being held at Putiki Pa. The spiritual side of the conference began yesterday, when a series of addresses was given. Presiding at all the services is the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett. Personnel of Ihe Maori clergy present include: The Revs. Paora Temuera (Obaki), H. Taepa (Waira-rapa-Wellington). P. Leonard (Marton), H. Kerementa (Pipiriki) and P. Kokiri (Putiki). Maori laymen are also attending the conference. Matters concerning the welfare of church work among the Maoris of the diocese, as well as educational and moral subjects, are being discussed. Last night Bishop Bennett officiated at a confirmation service at the pa. The conference will conclude today.
