VALUES AT ADDINGTON

(P.A.) Christchurch, April 19. Heavy entries of fat cattle and fat sheep steadied the values at Addington to-day. The store lamb entries rose from 2240 Last week to 4400. The market was slightly dragging for wether lambs, with a drop of about Is a head. Although there was not the same competition as recently for ewe lambs, prices were much on a par with the last sale. The highst price for ewe iambs was 30s for Romney-cross, and 21s 3d for wethers. Twortooths sold at satisfactory prices. The dqmand for older sheep was again keen, and prices showed no change. One line of Chatham Islands four, six and eight-tooth Romney ewes made from 24s 6d to 345, and four and six-tooth wethers from the Chathams up to 275. Good four-year halfbred ewes in lamb sold from 22s to 24s 6d; medium, from 15s 6d to 21s. The fat shep entry was 5000 and included mostly ewes of mixed quality, with a few outstanding pens, which made up to 34s 7d for big Romney ewes. Except for the best sheep, the market for old and unfinished ewes was dragging. There was again a scarcity of wethers, the best price being 425. The fat cattle entry was 640, against. 512 last week. There was an improvement in the quality, with more prime steers. A big section, however, was filled by ordinary cows culled from dairy herds. The sale opened at a lower level than last week, but firmed up for better-class beef. Best beef made to 48s per 100 lbs; good, 42s to 455; medium, to 41s; best cow beef, to 395; best heifer beef to 425. Fat Pigs.—The porker entry was again small, and the market was a shade firmer, last week’s prices being exceeded by 2s to 3s a head. The entry of bacon was of medium size and the sale was the best for some time, a general improvement of 2s to 3s being recorded, with occasional advances up to ss. The bacon average price per lb. was 8«d to 82d.
