March 9. i Some details of the new 12-cyllnder I Rolls-Royce Griffon aero engine, inj stalled in the latest Spitfire, published I In London, show that it has a capacity of 36.7 litres, compared with 27 litres of lhe famous Merlin engine, with which the original Hurricanes and Spitfires were powered. The horsel power is not disclosed, but correspondents deduce that it is much "renter than the 1210 h.n. of the M°rlin 15. The two-speed mechani-cally-driven suner-charger is assumed to give excentionally good performance. not only at Io u altitudes but at heights between 15,000 and 25,000 feet, - 8.0.W,
