WOMEN’S DIVISION

WANGAEHU BRANCH The Wanganui branch of the W.D.F.U. held its first meeting of 1944 on February 22, after being in recess since November. Mrs. Mackintosh, the president, welcomed all present, expressing hopes that work would be resumed with fresh interest and vigour after the period of rest from W.D. activities. Correspondence was dealt with. A letter of resignation was received with regret from Mrs. Brown, who is leaving the district. A letter of thanks was also read from a Middle East soldier in receipt of patriotic parcel. From the Rev. Thompson also was, read a letter of thanks for donation of £1 10s for Christmas for interdenominational mission fund. A discussion followed as to ways and means of increasing the donations to this fund. Mrs. Bartrum offered to make a cake (or competition, which offer was gratefully accepted. It was also agreed that, a mission box be procured to plate on table at meetings throughout 1 he year. In the absence of the treasurer £5 was voted to the provincial housekeeping fund, on condition that funds were available. Mrs Honeyman and Mrs. Mackintosh offered tcu donate a points prize each for competitions held throughout the year. The competition for the day. arranged bv Mrs. Bartrum, was won by Mrs. Frederick, Mrs. Newbury and Humphreys (equal) 2. Mrs. Honeyman exhibited a pot of strawberry jam. made with ripe tomato and strawberry essence. This was tested and approved by all as an excellent substitute.
