AID FOR FLOODED EAST COAST
STATE FINANCIAL HELP (PA.) Parliament Bldgs.. March 9. In reply to an urgent question asked in the House of Representatives to-day by Messrs. D. W. Coleman (Govt., Gisborne), A. E, Armstrong (Gov., Napier) and E. L. Cullen (Govt., Hawke’s Bay), the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, said the Government was arranging financial assistance to settlers whose properties had been damaged in the recent East Coast floods, wherever settlers were unable io obtain money through normal chan, nels. and assistance would be forthcoming without delay. Representatives of the Department of Agriculture and the Public Works Department were visiting the district and forms of application would be distributed to settlers, and would be collected when completed, and reported upon before being forwarded to the Treasury for consideration. In reply to Mr. W. Sullivan (Opp.. Bay of Plenty), Mr. Fraser said grass seed was being made available for resowing the flooded areas, and supernhosphate, for the same purpose, would be released at a rate of one hundredweight per acre. The question of a special release of gumboots was receiving urgent consideration.
