PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH INDUCTION OF NEW MINISTER (0.C.) Hunterville, Feb. 9. The induction of the Rev. Alan Baxter, 8.A., as minister of the Hunterville Presbyterian Parish took place with lull ceremony yesterday afternoon. Earlier in the day the Wanganui Presbytery and the Presbyterian Association had met and members of these organisations augmented the large congregation of local people. Rev. A. A. Brash, B.D. (Wanganui) presided and performed the impressive ceuemony of induction, while Rev. T. A. Speer, B.X. (Fordell), preached the sermon and Rev. A. C. McLean, M.A. (Wanganui) addresjpd the minister and congregation. After the service a welcome was accorded Mr. and Mrs. Baxter in St. Andrew’s Hall. Mr. G. Snadden spoke on behalf of the congregation and Rev. J. Robertson, 8.A., spoke in his capacity as interim moderator o£ the charge during the vacancy. On behalf of the Anglican community Rev. P. Wiltshire extended a special welcome to Mr. Baxter, whom he had met before, and who, he said, would do splendid work in the district. On behalf of the congregation Mr. J. Morrison made a presentation to Rev. Robertson in recognition of his services as moderator, and opportunity was also taken by Rev. Brash and Rev. Berry (Aramoho) to thank the ladies for the delightful meals which they had provided during the day. “This is the first time Presbytery has met in Hunterville,” Mr. Brash said. “I don’t think it will be the last.” Mr. Baxter replied to the addresses of welcome and said he was looking forward with confidence to his m.nistry in the Hunterville district. He hoped the enthusiasm of that day was just an indication of wnat was to follow.
