ACROSS THE PACIFIC
U.S. NAVY AIR TRANSPORT Reed. 9.30 p.m. New York, Jan. 9. Hundreds of officers, tons of mail and special high priority cargo are being flown across the Pacific to Australia. Raymond Clapper. New York World-Telegram columnist, in a message from Australia, saxs: "Our Navy freight plane landed here after covering 9500 miles in three days and three nights’ flying from Washington. There are several Navy planes flying each way daily, plus several for the Army. The Navy’s ail transport system has not lost a single plane in this operation. and only one was forced down. This is the backbone of our communications system in the war in lhe Pacific. giving speed and flexibility where they are needed."
