The Farmers' Co-op. report as follows:—Of major . interest after the Holiday period has been that of opening lamo fairs. Kohuratahi on Wednesday and Hawera on Thursday commanded most attention. A remarkable feature has been the spirited demand lor all best classes of fattening lambs. Dry weather has been experienc. .1 for tne past two months and aiiuA. t ,j dairying production is affected considerably, sheep graziers are not in such a bad way. If the weather continues dry for the next few weeks, then the position would become serious, but, at the moment, buyers of lambs are open to gamble on rains ere long and if these come, then a splendid “back end” is assured and with the increased schedule ruling for "heavyweight” lambs, then “fatteners” are assured of a good return. At both lamb fairs the market was on a par with last year’s values and in many cases best-conditioned lambs sold at prices above those obtained last season. Sales have been as follows: —At Kohuratahi, best earlyshorn w.f. wether lambs, 18s; others 17s 9d, 17s 2d; medium to good, to 16s 8d; smaller and lighter-condition lambs, 14s 6d to 15s sd; cully, healthy sorts, 10s to lid 9d; ewe lambs, medium to average, 17s, 17s lOd, 18s 4d; two-tooth wethers, 20s 8d; fat light sheep, 235, 24s 6d. At Hawera: Large bench of buyers and good, steady demand. Woolly b.f. lambs, 17s 7d, 17s 6d; smaller, 16s down to 15s; shorn b.f., 15s, 14s 9d; best w.f. early shorn lambs, 18s 9d, 18s Bd. 18s 6d; other sales for good classes ranging from 16s to 18s; medium grades, 13s to 15s 6d; smaller, Ils; culls, but healthy, 6s, l()s; 6-tooth wethers, 22s 6d; 2-toolh wethers, average condition, 21s 6d; fat, light 2-tooths, 23s 8d; top ewe lambs. 21s 6d; second draft lambs, 15s: smaller classes, 10s 9d to 13s; cully kinds. 6s to 9s Id. Cattle sales have been more or less confined to that of auction business and the demand has been excellent for all classes, which have been disposed of at late rates. Works buyers are particularly active.
