TEETH AND DIET
LESSONS FROM AMERICANS
New Zealanders had much to learn from the Americans in their lavish use of milk and raw salads, said Mr. F. W. Rice, 8.D.5., the senior dental officer for the Auckland district, speaking in Auckland. He contrasted the small percentage of arlificial dentures in their army with that in the Dominion forces. Apparently 60 per cent, of the men in the New Zealand forces had artificial teeth. This stale of affairs could be largely remedied by an increase in the consumption of milk, cheese, eggs. fish, raw fruit and vegetables, with th? addition of vitamin D in th" form of cod liver oil during the win'er. These foods were not only tooth cleansing but contained valuable vitamins and minerals. Decayed teeth could be the gateway to ill-health, he said.
