PARAMUSHIRU RAIDED
Rccd. 6 p.m. Washington, Jan. 3. A group of armv bombers bombed Paramushiru but the results were not observed. The Catalina flying-boats which bombed Paramushiru also raided the naval base at Kaio'.a, on Shimushu Island. The returning flyers said they had arrived over Paramushiru in darkness and met erratic flak. One Japanese fighter came up to meet the Catalinas, but inflicted no damage. The United Press points out that this is the first time the army has sent Catalinas against the Kuriles, which were previously attacked by Mitchells and Liberators. Paramushiru is at. the northern end of the Kurile Island chain, which runs from the extremity of Kamchatka to Hokkaido, the most northcrlv of the Japan group.
