AUSTRALIAN LOSSES
55,000 WAR CASUALTIES (Special Australian Correspondent—N.Z.P.A.) Recd. 8.40 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 5. Australian casualties since the beginning of the war now total 55,890, the Minister of the Army, Mr. F. M. Forde, announced to-day. The 1943 casualties totalled 9031, not including prisoners of war but including many casualties carried over from the Middle East and Far Eastern theatres from the year .before. The total number of Australians killed is 10,884, wounded 15.332. missing 3779, prisoners of war 25,895.
