FUTURE ADMINISTRATION OF SANATORIA All hospital boards in the southern portion of the North Island are represented on a committee set up by the Department of Health to consider questions associated with tuberculosis and* the boards taking over the administration of the Otaki and Pukeora (Waipukurau) sanatoria. The chairman, Mr. W. E. Broderick (Maxwell), who represents the Wanganui Hopital Board on this committee, said at the monthly meeting yesterday that the committee met in Palmerston North recently, when a small sub-committee, of which he was a member, was appointed to visit Otaki and Pukeora. The sub-commit-tee would advise on the question of taking over these institutions and spending money on them. A report would subsequently be submitted to hospital boards for approval or otherwise. OFFICER APPOINTED IMtIDENCE OF T.B. IN WANGANUI DISTRICT Dr. W. A. Priest, at present serving in the Royal'New Zealand Air Force, has been appointed tuberculosis officer on a full-time basis for the Wanganui Hospital Board’s district. The appointment was made by the board at ils monthly meeting yesterday and followed a decision to employ a medical officer to make a detailed survey of the incidence of tuberculosis in the board’s extensive district. The appointment is also part of a Domin-ion-wide campaign to combat the dis-, ease. Dr. Priest qualified in 1933 at the Otago Medical School and after a year! at. the Dunedin Hopital served for two years in the New Plymouth Hospital. He subsequently served for a year at the Cashmere Sanatorium and for two and a-quarter years at the Waipiata Sanatorium. Two applications were received for the position. Dr. Priest’s appointment dates from April 1.
