AEGEAN SEA ISLANDS

COMMANDOS RAID SYMI Recd. 6 p.m. London, Nov. 20. When British commandos made the recent successful raid on the small island of Symi, a few miles north of Rhodes, three small patrols which had landed under cover of darkness silently pressed forward to the town of Symi. They succeeded in wiping out one post and patrol of 14 men, and they also partly wrecked the enemy headquarters, inflicted much damage at the local power station, destroyed three caiques and damaged three others, and blew up an ammunition dump. All this was achieved without a casualty in the raiding party. The German news agency states that German light naval forces occupied the Italian-held island ol Nikaria, 12 miles west of Samos, and captured 240 prisoners. German lorces also occupied the islands of Lipso and Patmos, north of Leros, after all enemy resistance had ceased. An Allied air communique says that R.A.F. heavy bombers on Thursday night attacked Khalkis, in Greece, causing heavy explosions and large fires. Other bursts were seen near the eastern mole. Other planes attacked targets near Metkovitch, in Yugoslavia. Morocco radio quoted a report from Berlin that the Allied forces have been withdrawn from Samos.
