CURE FOR COMMON COLD
Recd. 9.30 p.m. London, Nov. 19. Medical men are investigating what, is hoped to prove a cure for the common cold. Professor W. E. Gye, while suffering from a severe cold, received a sample of a new substance, Petulin, which was intended for cancer tests. Petulin like penscillln, is derived from a fungus. Professor Gye, knowing its antibacterial qualities, tried it as a nasal douche for his cold, with the result that he was completely well next morning. Experiments since carried out among naval men and Wrenshave shown good results, but Petulin will not be released until further trials have established its value and safety.
