BRITISH MUST ACT SOON

ARMED TRUCE AT BEIRUT Recd. 6 p.m. London, Nov. 18. Britain must step in soon in Lebanon or what has happened there will be child's play compared with what will happen in the future. This is the opinion expressed by an Arab notable wno is weil-intormed on the Lebanon situation, says the Britisn United Press corresponoent cabling Irom the Lebanon-Palestine border. He added: ”rne present stage is the calm before the storm. The situation in Beirut is like an armed truce, noth sides waiting to see the outcome of General Catroux’s negotiations, but it is clear tnat the Lebanese have no intention of accepting any new Government."

King Farouk of, Egypt, in the Speecn irom the Throne, stated he profoundly deplored the painful events in Lebanon, against which the Egyptian Government iiad immediately and strongly protested. “My Government will ao everything possible to reestablish a normal situation and the triumph of right in this dear country,” ne averred.

Syria is taking the necessary steps witn the appropriate authorities in Lebanese interests, the Government spokesman told the Syrian Parliament in Damascus yesterday.
