FOOD FOR U.S. FLEET
N.Z.’S HELP IN PACIFIC Recd. 6.45 p.m. Rugby, Nov. 15. Australia ami New Zealand were supplying- the American Pacitic Fleet with tremendous quantities ot fresh vegetables and meat, and in doing so have largely helped to solve one ol Americas major problems. This was stated in London oy Admiral William Brent Young, Cliiei ot tne Bureau ot Supplies arid Accounts anu l'ay-master-Geucra! of the U.S. Navy. Tire acmiral has recently returned from a 24,00 U-mile tour ot the Pacific and South Pacific areas, including Australia and New Zeaiana, to investigate the speed and efficiency with Which naval supplies are reacning the fighting forces mere. He saia: "By supplying the United States with fresn meat and vegetables, Australia ana New Zeaiana save tne United States a long haul across the Pacific. Australia has also been very co-operative in developing new lines ot industry. The Australians learned to bone beer and pack it by hydraulic methods." Air transport, added' the admiral, was going to pla> a very great part in supplying the fleet. America was building planes which could carry 80001 b. Tne U.S. had developed new styles of packing and coinpressing dehydrated rood to eliminate weight. Declaring that the supply problem in the Pacific was now solved, the admiral said that enough supplies were now reaching the area to mount a large-scale attack on the Japanese.— 8.0.W.
