OBITUARY
MR. JOHN HENRY GILL. (0.C.1 Marton, Oct. 17. A well-known resident ot the Putorino district, Mr. John Henry Gill, died suddenly in the Wanganui Hospital recently. He was born in Blenheim 52 years ago and in his earlier days was a prominent Rugby player. He went overseas with the 23rd. Reinforcements and for two and a-half years served with the Ist. N.Z.E.F. in France, being 'wounded on two occasions. After he returned from war service, Mr. Gill worked as a shepherd on the Papanui Station, Taihape, for la years. In 1919 he married Miss Ivy Davis. They had six children and nine years ago Mr. Gill and his family settled on a soldier’s section at Putorino. After a service at St. Stephen's Church, Marton, the funeral left for the Mt. View Cemetery. Many wreaths testified to the high esteem in which Mr. Gill was held. The pallbearers were all members of the Marton Returned Services’ Association.
