PARTY SCRUTINEERS

TO CHECK SERVICE VOTES IN PACIFIC (P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 2. An interesting development in connection with service voting in the Pacific area is that representatives of the four political parties are being given travelling facilities to be present as scrutineers at the official counting of the votes in certain overseas points in the Pacific. This is not an investigation but a scrutiny such as is provided for in connection with the recounts’as in New Zealand, where the candidates are represented at the count.

The scrutineers who go overseas will be able to see for themselves how the votes were collected, whether declaration votes were correctly made and the general method of conduct!lg the election. If any investigation isyconsidered desirable there is ample power in the Electoral Act to enable this to be done.

The names of the scrutineers who will proceed overseas are not yet available.
