HAWKE’S BAY CARD

PROSPECTS AT HASTINGS Of considerable importance in the spring racing campaign the southern portion of the North Island is the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club meeting, to be held at the Hastings course today. Provision has been made for divisions in two of the eight events, but prospects are that defections will obviate this necessity in the Flaxmere Hack and the Imperial Plate. Keen interest will be displayed in the prospects of the juveniles engaged in the Hastings Stakes, which has drawn the largest field of youngsters in the recent history of the event. The majority, moreover, are so well bred that their future careers will be followed with interest.

Debutant Stakes form points to Martial Note, but there is ample room for a surprise. After his win in the Higgle Handicap at the Wanganui meeting Aqueduct is likely to be a firm favourite for the Hastings Handicap, with Crucible and The Monarch also engaging attention. Ko! Ragi, Palora and Autolite appeal among the sjfrinters..
