PACIFIC WAR
ANOTHER TWO YEARS WHAT U.S. SENATORS SAY (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Recd. 11 p.m. Washington, Sept. 29. Senators Mead, Brewster and Russell, who have returned from an inspection trip of world battle-fronts, told the Press that they believed the Pacific war would not end before 1945, but because they had lost Russi in oil and also coi | rol of the Mediterranean and the submarine battle. Germany’s collapse might come any time. On the Pacific front the Senators found the closest co-operation of the Army and Navy, but not enough supplies and men going there. Nevertheless the Japanese knew the Alljes were on the offensive.
Referring to the other side of the picture, the Senators expressed the opinion that the American people were not being informed about the seamy side, meaning that heavy losses were not fuliy mentioned. Senator Mead said the Truman Investigating Committee should direct attention to developing a post-war aviation nolicy, under which American commercial planes would have access to airfields built with United States funds in foreign countries.
Senator Brewster said the Committee should urge that additional oil for the United Nations should be taken from the Persian Gulf area so that American supplies will not be exhausted after the war.
