PACIFIC WAR COUNCIL

MEETING AT WASHINGTON Recd. 6 p.m. Rugby, Sept. 29. The first meeting of the Pacific War Council since the appointment ot Lord Louis Mountbatten as com-mander-in-chief in East Asia, was held in Washington to-day. Members of the council said they had conferred, with President Roosevelt and reviewed the general situation in the Pacific.— 8.0.W. After the meeting of the Pacific War Council to-dav Sir Ronald Campbell, British Charge d’Affaires, said Council members agreed witli General MacArthur's opposition to islandhopping strategy. Sir Ronald added that it would be difficult to find disagreement thereon amongst the representatives of the Pacific Powers. President Roosevelt reviewed the general Pacific situation and looked somewhat into the future, the prospects of which were regarded by members as “not too bad.”
