GROWING ALARM
FOOD SITUATION IN U.S.
Recd. 9 p.m. Washington, Sept. 29. Congressional leaders, after a conference with President Roosevelt, said the President will send a message to Congress soon on the food situation. Senator Barkley, Democratic leader, said the general food situation is occasioning the Administration growing alarm owing to shortages and rising prices.
' The Food Administrator, Judge Marvin Jones, asked Congress to authorise the Commodity Credit Corporation to utilise 500,000,000 dollars for food subsidies to roll back prices. Judge Sones told the House Banking Committee that farm production costs are rising and the Government should absorb losses where necessary.
