MANY ENTRIES WANTED

MR. W. S. GLENN APPEALS TO FARfvIERS An appeal for the support of exhibitors at the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s -spring show next November was made by the patron, Mr. W. S. Glenn (Kakatahi) when he addressed farmers who attended the weekly Wanganui stock sale yesterday. Mr. Glenn pointed out that Wanganui was the location for the New Zealand chilled beef championship, while the Meat Producers' Board had also apportioned to the association the privilege of staging the district competition in export lambs, to which the board had contributed the major portion of the prize-money. With such important competitions in tneir keeping, Wanganui farmers should do their utmost to prepare and enter exhibits, and thus make the show an outstanding success. Mr. Glenn paid a tribute to Freeman R. Jackson and Co. for the loan of their yards and pens for the show, and to the N.Z. Refrigerating Co., which subscribed handsomely to the prize-money and also made a feature of a display during the judging at the works. This enabled farmers and others interested to see for themselves the care and skill required in the handling of carcases. When the association is able to stage its next show on the racecourse. possibly in 1944, it would be one of the finest in the Dominion, mainly because stock from this district could hold its own with stock from any other part of New Zealand. Mr. Glenn added. If farmers rallied to this year's show it would be a great incentive to the executive in

their major effort next year. Several f armers congratulated Mr. Glenn after his address and promised to support this year’s show.
