MR. KIRK AT CASTLECLIFF

Continuing his campaign. the National Party candidate, Mr. E. J. Kirk, addressed el Cetol’s in the 1 Castlecliff Town Hall last evening. There was a large attendance and Mr. C. Horne was in the chair. A vote of ' thanks, proposed by Mr. H. Macneil and seconded by Mrs. E. P. Allen, was carried by acclamation. Referring to New Zealand’s mount- . ing indebtedness under , the candidate drew attention to the ' Prime Minister's statement that Lend- ’ I Lease did not mean going into debt , 'and it did not matter how the balance- , sheet stood. If that were so, said Mr. Kirk, why have a balance-sheet at all? It was his opinion that the . situation disclosed by the present GovJernment’s handling of this matter

provided evidence of another colossal blunder and was a poor advertisement for the costly Washington Legation.
