WANGANUI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The splendid contribution being made to the welfare of the city and district bv the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce was refered to at the annual meeting last night. Many questions of importance were taken up on behalf of the city last year and it was stated that every effort had been made to obtain improved transport, shipping, and other facilities. The chamber was also anxious to have as many secondary industries as possible established in Wanganui. The president, Mr. C. S. Jeffs, reviewed the activities of the chamber during the past year and said it was the duty of the chamber to take up questions which concerned the welfare of the city and district. At times the chamber may have been accused of intruding in matters which were the concern of other bodies, but this was never intended. The president added that in view of the pending general election he would make no reference to contentious matters. Mr. Jeffs also thanked the executive for support given during his term of office.

Mr. D. G. O’Toole, immediate past president, said Mr. Jeffs had done splendid work as president. The chamber appreciated his efforts, which were of great value to the city and district. On the motion of Mr. O’Toole, seconded by Mr. T. N. Dickson, Mr. Jeffs was returned to office unopposed. Returning thanks, Mr. Jeffs said the year ahead -would be strenuous, but with the help of the executive much more valuable work would be accomplished in the interests of the city. Mr. Jeffs also expressed the hope that the war would have been brought to a successful conclusion. Other officers elected wore: Vicepresident, Mr. ,A. McPhail; executive, Messrs. S. R. McCallum, T. N. Dickson, W. L. Burgess, A. Hoiroyd, J. Morgan, A. E. Millward and D. Martin; auditor, Mr. G. W Currie.
