Recd. 6.45 p.m. London, Aug. 29. American military headquarters in London announce that the record total of 307 German lighters were destroyed in air combats on August 17 when Flying Fortresses attacked important targets in Regensburg and .Schweinfurt, Fifty-nine American bombers were lost in these operations. i Of the 307 enemy aircraft destroyed, 140 were destroyed by Fortresses (which after the Regensburg raid flew on to North Africa), Schweinfurt, and 20 by supporting 147 by Fortresses attacking Thunderbolts. The figures do not include newly completed fighters destroyed on the ground at Regensburg.
