The reserve on August 23 was £27,503,608. a decrease of £219,525. A year ago the reserve? was £28,005,106. Sterling exchange ■on August 23 totalled £24,725,954, a decrease of £1,639,753. Liabilities in currencies other than New Zealand currency were £24,223 (a decrease of £1,420,228), thus rnakiii.'; ths bank’s net overscan assets £24,701,731, a decrease cf £210,525. A year ago these assets am-unt-ed to £25,203,229. Advances to the State Marketing Department totalled £6,211,505, a decrease of £68,729. A year ago they were £7,242,815. Advances to the State for other purposes have increased by £5,900,000, and now stand at £32,753,000, compared with £22,300,000 a year ago. The note issue on August 23 was £33,343.894, an increase for the week of £257,860. A year ago it was £26.621,454. Demand liabilities to the State amount to £15.773.715, an increase of £3,609,691. The trading banks’ reserve balances total £27,582.838, an increase of £3,043,498. Other liabilities at £449,118, have decreased by £764,619.
