MARTON REHABILITATION COMMITTEE FARMERS NOT REPRESENTED. The following letter has been forwarded by the secretary (Mr. J. B. S. Dudding) of the Marton branch ot N.Z. Farmers' Union to the Minister of Rehabilitation and to Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P., protesting against the non-inclusion of a farmers’ representative on the Marton Rehabilitation Committee: ‘Dear Sir, —My Executive have instructed me to * write you and express their regret that the farmers were not consulted and are not represented on the Marton Rehabilitation Committee. They point out that as this area is almost wholly farming and a most productive and fertile district. We feel that this omission will not 'be in the best interests of rehabilitating the soldiers of this areas.” NATIONAL SAVINGS. Marton reached its 97th. successive week for its quota on Friday morning, when the Victory flag was flying. RUGBY ON MARTON PARK. An interesting game of Rugby should eventuate when the Marton Old Boys Thirds and Bulls Thirds meet on the Marton Park this afternoon at 2.45. The following players will represent Marton: —Muir, Whale, Mahoney, Bostock, Stantiall, King-ham, Grant, Smart, Gray, Keystone, Hamer, Grice, Morrison Lander, Simpson. Emergencies: Moffett and Gray. HAWKESTONE GOLF CLUB. A bogey match will be arranged or. the HawKestone golf links this after-: noon at 1.30 for players who are not competing in the championship competitions. VISIT OF MISS COCKSJOHNSTONE. Garden lovers will be pleased to learn that Miss Cocks-Johnstone, a renowned lady gardener, will hold a field day at Miss Fullerton-Smith's “Freyberg,” Calico Line, Marton, on Tuesday. August 31. At 10.12 a.m. her subject will be the vegetable garden, pruning and spraying, and at 2 p.m. preservation of vegetables and fruit. Admission charge is one shilling. SALVATION ARMY. 52nd. ANNIVERSARY MEETINGS. To-night (Saturday) at 7.45 p.m. in connection with the 52nd. Anniversary meetings, the morning at 11 Captain Gray from Sweden, will give an interesting lecture about her country and its people, their dress and customs vuc and will display and explain much that will interest and charm ell who will hear her stories and sweet songs. There will be a sandwich supper at the close, and lire birthday cake will be cut and sold. On Sunday, Mrs. Gray will conduct U.e meetings, in the morning ,it 11 a G and in the afternon at -i p.m. .All friends are warmly invited be pre: ent and share in these special celebrations and meetings. CLEARING SALE OF FURNITURE. Mr. Percy P. Stevens will hold a clearing sale of furniture and effects for Mrs. H. Sutcliffe at her residence, Pukepapa Road, Marton, on Wednesday. September 1 at 1 p.m. MARTON HOGGET FAIR. There will be a record yarding of 11,000 hoggets at the Marton Hogget Fair at Marton on Tuesday, September 7, the sale commencing at 1 p.m. The entry comprises 7000 wether hoggets, 3000 ewe hoggets and 100 b.f. hoggets. The hoggets have all been ■ wintered on swedes and chou moellier and are genuine farmers’ lines.
