GROWING STRAIN

SITUATION IN DENMARK PEOPLE’S ANGER RISING 'By Teiegn.rb J'rcrra Association—Copyrights Recti. 7 p.m. London, Aug. 25. The Danish situation is completely out of Id nd for the Germans, reports the Stockholm correspondent of tho British I nite:! I*ress. The Danish saboteurs are ignoring appeals to respect law and order, no matter xvhofiher they come from King Christian or the trade unions. .Saboteurs are now concentrating on buildings which the Germans have requisitioned. The situation is near breaking point, and so are tho German nerves. This is proved by the steady increase in Gorman violations of the GermanDanish agreement, as a result of v.hich tho Scavenius Government is now answering German complaints with counter-complaints. The Aarhus electricity works in eastern Denmark, supplying power to the greater part of the country, has been blown up by saboteurs. The Stockholm correspondent of the Daily Express says that the whole province of eastern Jutland, where many factories are working for the Germans, has been paralysed because of lack of electricity. Neither the Gorman nor the Danish authorities appear to be able to exercise any control over the rising anger of the Danish population, and after three tense days, during which the crisis has become more acute, there is now a strong probability that the Germans will resort to complete military occupation of Denmark. This would moan tho introduction of martial law to maintain order. A state of emergency has already been declared in Svondborg, Aaarhus, Aaalborg, Middel fart, Korsor. and Odense. German troops now occupy all strategic points in Copenhagen. The German occupation took place without incident. The Danish troops were confined to barracks, while civilians disappeared from the streets. The first step taken by tho Germans was to seize all the available food, which has resulted in angry protests. A union of syndicates of the J>anish Socialist Party has made a new appeal to the workers, warning them against inconsiderate action. The appeal states: “If things develop as in the past few days Denmark is hradfng for catastrophe.”
