SLY-GROG SELLING
(P.A.) Wellington. Aug. 12. A deal with a serviceman for a bottle of whisky at £6 resulted in the third prosecution of Anthony James Hardy, aged 33. labourer and carpenter. for selling liquor without a licence. The magistrate did not heed a plea for a line. That would not stop the practice, he said, but imprisonment might. The maximum for a third offence was six months. He imposed three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
