RAPANUI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

There was a good attendance of members at the June meeting of the Rapanui W.1.. held in the hall, last. Thursday. Mrs. Cooper presided, and extended a warm welcome to all, including a bus load of members of the Westbonrne W.1., who very kindly provided the programme for the afternoon, also the prizes for the competitions. The usual business was dealt with and a donation received from the Brunswick W.I. gratefully acknowledged. Mrs. Berry entertained with delightful songs and later conducted community singing. Mrs. Butler also sang, and Miss Tonkins recited. These items were enjoyed by all. Later Mrs. Prouse gave a very interesting demonstration on raffia work and cement models for the garden. These ladies were presented with shoulder sprays. Mrs. Uttley then presented a beautiful nut bo\ 1 to the institute for a points piize al, the end of six months. This gesture was greatly appreciated. The bring-and-buy stall, in charge of Mesdames Bason and Hodges did good business, and the Soldiers’ Parcels Fund was greatly benefited. Mrs. G. 11. Handley again handed out Air Force wool, and several garments were handed in. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames G. 11. Handley and Russell. Results of the competitions were: Best bloom. Mrs. G. H. Handley 1, Mrs. Cooper 2, Miss L. Saunders 3. Shortbread: Mrs. McNic 1, Mrs. Burnet 2, Miss Joan Brown 3. Mrs. Cooper proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs. Uttley and Bie visitors, and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
