DUAL-PURPOSE ’CARRIER TO BE PRODUCED
Recd. 6 p.rn. Washington, March IS. The production of a new type dualpurnose aircraft-carrier which can be delivered at the rate of six a month is announced bv Mr. Henry Kaiser. The new carriers, besides ordinary naval carrier duty, will serve as aeroplane transports. The first will be launched about April 5. With the exception of escort ships, the production of every type of naval craft is ahead of schedule. Some vessels are coming from the ways a year ahead of original expecta ions, according to information that the Navy Secretary. Colonel Frank Knox, has given to the Senate Committee. Battleships, aircraft-carriers, cruisers, and destroyers are being commissioned rapidly, and Uni ed States strength is being augmented at a fast rate. I Colonel Knox explained that the production oi escort craft was intei- ; rupted six months ago by the produc•tion of landing craft.
