ANSWER TO INQUIRY
An Ohakune correspondent inquires who rode Cheval de Volee when that horse won the Auckland Cup in 1938 and 1939. H. Long was the successful jockey on both occasions. H. N. Wiggins rode three successive winners of the Railway Handicap, being on Disdain in 1938 and on Bronwen in 1939 and 1940. At the 1938 meeting Wiggins also won the Foal Stakes on High Caste, and did the “hat trick” on the concluding day on High Caste (Royal Stakes), Gay Son (Clifford Plate) and Bachelor King (Bowen Handicap). At the 193 u meeting he was on Beau Vite (Clifford Plate* aiid Te Kawiti (Grey Handicap). At the 1940 meeting he followed up his Railway Handicap success with a win on Kindergarten in the Christmas Handicap.
