CHILDREN’S GARDEN CIRCLE

PARTY HELD AT GROUNDS OF MR. HOPE GIBBONS Members of the Wanganui Children's Garden Circle were entertained at the residence of Mr. Hope Gibbons, Mount View Road, on Saturday afternoon, when Mr. Gibbons was assisted in his duties as host by his daughter, Mrs. A, R. Gower, president of the Garden Circle. The committee of the club was in charge of arrangements, the gathering, which was held instead of the usual meeting at the Bell Street rooms, being attended by more than 60 children, including intending members. The children were taken round the beautiful grounds by Mrs. Gower, who gave the names of the rare trees and’snrubs and the countries of their origin, also pointing out their many peculiar features. Beauty in the arrangement of flowers, berries, fruit and coloured leaves was evident in the bowls which formed the centrepiece of the tables. The children were provided with soft drinks and cakes, and a member's birthday cake was also shared for the occasion. Following the afternoon tea interval, the children were addressed by Mr. W. P. Williams, who invited Mr. Gibbons to present to tiie Garden Circle a photograph of himself as donor of the Jessie Hope Gibbons grounds in Bell Street as the home of the Children's Garden Circle, in memory of his wife. This photograph was accepted on behalf of the Garden Circle by George Lemon, and Evelyn Chelly received an enlarged photograph of the late Mrs. Hope Gibbons for the rooms.

Before the gathering concluded. Josephine Ferry, on behalf of the Garden Circle, extended thanks for their hospitality to Mrs. Gower and Mr. Hope Gibbons.
