CHURCHILL TO WARN NATION

Mr. Churchill will take an early opportunity to warn the nation that tne climax of the war is approacning, needing the utmost vigilance, deftness, power and energy to meet it, says tn Sunday Express diplomatic correspondent. Observers in London believe that the intensification ot the Allied air oflensive against Germany preludes swift action which will produce sensational developments. German generals who are now in charge oi military affairs must create a large-scade diversion to regain the initiative, 'ibis is only possible by tne opening of a second front where they, and not the Allies, choose. British experts consider this possible by large-scale airborne commando raids on Britain, which might be tantamount to an attempted invasion with tne aim of disorganising and delaying our plans lor an attack qp the Continent, forcing us to keep big formations ana many ,var planes in Britain and also disrupting war industries and promoting war weariness in Britain and allaying it in Axis countries.

Despite reported unrest in Germany at the absence of reprisal raids for heavy R.A.F. bombing, the Luftwaffe is possibly not prepared to risk heavy losses in raids, fearing that planes will be lacking when the invasion opens. Other German military circles urge, hitting back against uritisii towns, inasmuch as an intact Luftwaffe at ihe expense of shattered production, transport and morale is a bad bargain. Thus the Axis High Command is confronted with the choice which British strategy aimed to present to it.
