( VICE-REGAL Their Excellencies, the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall, attended by Major C. J. Holiand-Martin, military secretary, made a brief stay in Wanganui yesterday, on their way from New Plymouth to Wellington. The party lunched a’ Foster’s Hotel.

Flying-Officer Keith R. Congreve, R.N.Z.A.F., of Wanganui, has been promoted to the rank of Flight-Lieu-tenant, according to the latest issue of the Gazette. The Rev. E. B. Chambers was elected president of the Wanganui Ministers’ Association at the annual meeting recently. The Rev. W. N. Flett was elected secretary.

A short time ago he obtained the M.Sc. and honours pass, first class, in the Victoria University College examinations. jMr. Dawbin is a former pupil of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School. The death occurred, recently, at his home, Hataitai, of Mr. Ira Spencer Lord, who was born in the Selwyn district of Canterbury over 82 years ago. He worked on his father’s farm till he married in 1883. He then settled in the Hawke’s Bay province, where he spent 40 years as a farmer and horticulturist in various parts of the province. He went to Wellington in 1921, and was employed as a wool classer by the Gear Meat Company till 1939, when he retired. His keen interest in gardening never left him and right up to a day or two before his death he worked in his garden, which was a source of interest to passers-by in Belvedere Road. ____
