TARANAKI BUSINESS Stock values generally show little variation as compared with those reported last week, states the Farmers’ Co-op. in their weekly summary. Business throughout most departments has again been well to the fore and a good volume of trade is recorded. In the store stock section that of store sheep continues to see thia market strong and active. Lambd carrying condition and breeding ewes have again solicited good enquiry and values are c\ a par with late rates. Inferior lambs, that is, low condition kinds, show an indication that requirements are more or less filled for this class. There is strong enquiry for all classes of wethers ana values lor this class also remain firm at late rates. At our Hawera sale on Thursday last, forward condition b.f. woolly lambs sold from 16s 4d to 17s; woolly w.f. wether lambs trom 16s 6d to 17s 9d; best conditioned shorn lambs 16s down to 15s; medium classes Ils 6d to 13s 6d; small mixed sex lambs 8s Id, 9s 3d, 9s 9d; inferior ewe lambs 9s 4d to 10s 6d; early shorn 2-tooth ewes to 28s 4d, with smaller sheep 25s 3d to 25s 9d; low condition full-mouth ewes 9s 6d to 10s 6d; m.a. ewes IGs to 16s lOd; 4 and 5-year-old ewes (average), 20s 3d. There is little to report in the store cattle section but the feed position at the moment is keeping this market firm and autumn cattle fairs have shown a steady demand throughout for all classes. Fat Stock.—Late rates continue to rule for both beef and mutton and tho market is firm. Holders are content to await the approach of winter prior to unloading supplies and thus consequently, (he oil erings at present are just sullicient lor the local trade. Weaner Heifers.—Sales tor this class have been transacted during the week with buyers showing a preference for cattle ol type and quality. We report sales ot well grown weaners £5 to £5 ss; average £4 to £4 10s; At the Hawera sale on Thursday the entry was sold under good competition at the following values: Best quality fat cows (ex dairy) £6 to £6 ss; lighter quality cattle £5 4s to £5 8s; grazier cattle £4 18s to £5 2s; heavy works cows £4 to £5; medium grades £3 5s to £3 17s 6d; boners £1 15s to £2 IDs; best meaty bulls £6 10s, £6 ss; medium weights £5 to £5 10s; lighter £4 ss. The pig section attracted a good entry and the demand for porkers and good conditioned stores was excellent, for tho time of the year, prices showing little change during lhe past fortnight. Weaner pigs arc not so free of sale. Best light porkers £2 18s. £2 15s; large good condition stores £2 2s, £2 10s; medium 35s to £2; choice weaners £1 2s; medium classes 13s to 16s.
