HOME GUARDSMAN FINED

Wellington, Feb. 18. Francis John Allan, a member of the Rimutaka Battalion of the Home Guard, appeared before Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., at Upper Hutt yesterday, charged with failing to attend parades of the Home Guard For the police, Sergeant J. Gracey stated that the defendant, who was on essential work, was posted to the Home Guard last April, but had only attended two parades. Allan said the reason for his nonattendance was his wish to become a member of the mobilised forces The magistrate, convicting him, stated that he had a job to do and must carry it out.
