Public Opinion

FEDERAL UNION Sir,—Mr. Nash, in a recent address in Washington, gave as lhe first two points of "the trend of the British Commonwealth of Nations' future” implementation of the Atlantic Charter and development of the Unilea Nations organisation in the nost-war period. Mr. Cordell Hull is insistent that the United Nations should not return to wars between themselves in trade, economics and currencies. General Smuts, Sir Stafford Cripps and many other leaders say the same. Surely the most likely way of ensuring that the trade of each nation benefits the others as well as ijself and that their unity of action in these matters as well as in defence is maintained for the British Commonwealth and the U.S.A, and other similarlyminded democracies to unite in a federation.—l am, etc., J. G. DENNISTON. Wanganui, Feb. 18, 1943.
