WOMEN POLICE

TRAINING COMPLETED (P.A.) Wellington, Feb. 18. The second group ot women police trained for duties in New Zealand were met and farewelled by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and Commissioner D. J. Cummings at the completion of their four months’ training at Wellington. The result ot the training received was shown by the graduates staging a court scene in which all the procedure was gone through. Ccmr. Cummings congratulated the women on their excellent conduct. At all their examinations they had done wen, and in the last excellently. The Commissioner compared the pay ol the women police, £6 Ils 3d a week, winch includes boarding allowance, cost ot living bonus and overtime, with £2 9s received by a constable when he entered the service. The Commissiciiet stressed the importance of the special duties women police would do, particularly the help they could be to elderly persons, women and children. The Prime Minister said he was greatly impressed by what he han seen, and congratulated the women on their work in the court scene. The predominant feeling among the police was to help people, and it was this that appealed to everybody. A particularly important part of police work was the protection of children, and the police had also done wonderful work for Social Security benelicicrics. Police duties required judgment, coolness and impartiality, and horn what he had seen he was satislied these qualities would be displayed by women who were now in the service.

Mrs. Fraser presented the first-aid certificates won by each graduate.
