AUSTRALIA’S PART IN WAR

APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIAL HISTORIAN Canberra, Feb. 16. War Cabinet has appointed Mr. Gavin Long, Sydney Herald defence correspondent, as general editor for the official history of Australia’s part in the present war. To enable the earliest possible completion of the history, the editor himself will write not more than two volumes, relying largely upon other writers for completion of the work. Mr. Long was a war correspondent in France and the first Libyan and Greece campaigns. He is 42 years of age and is a son of the late Bishop Long, who was first chaplain and then Director of Education with the First A.I.F.
