MAGISTRATE’S COURff Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., presided at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Marton on Wednesday. M. Hallet pleaded guilty to not having a licence for his wireless and was fined 10s and Court costs. Leonard H. Bason was charged with driving a motor-car without due care and attention on Calico Line, Marton. Sergt. J. W. Brown appeared for the police and Mr. J. R. L. Stanford for defendant. Evidence was given by A. Stantiall, taxi-driver, from which it appeared that Stantiall was driving a car along Calico Line and was turning Into a gateway when Bason’s car collided with the front portion of Stantiall's car, damaging the front mudguard and running board. Stantiall stated that he did not signal that he was turning into the gateway as he was on his right side of the road and there was plenty of the roadway on which Bason could pass him. Constable Bowman produced a sketch of the scene of the ardent showing the marks where the cars skidded. After hearing the evidence, counsel for defendant entered a plea of guilty and the magistrate inflicted a fine of 30s and costs. POREWA-CLIFF LINE “SHOP” QUICK LORRY SALE Work for this begins with a “quick lorry” sale in Broadway to-day (Thursday). Outstide the Farmers' Distributing Co. the lorry will be found as soon as business at the saleyards is over, about 2 p.m. The lorry sale is in aid of the Mayor’s comforts “shop,” to be run by Porewa-Cliff Line-Greatford district on March 16. The district includes the east side of Marton. It is hoped that a good start will be made with this year’s activities in the direction of “shops.” The object is most deserving, being for the welfare of men of the services, and the promoters are already working hard. MARTON STOCK SALE The Marton stock sale will be held to-day, when 2545 sheep will be offered by public auction. The sale is being held to-day instead of last Tuesday, on which date the Mangaweka ewe fair took place.
